CLIMBING KILIMANJARO NORTHERN CIRCUIT ROUTE

Tour Description

The Northern Circuit Route is one of the longer and less-traveled paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is known for its scenic beauty, diverse landscapes, and excellent acclimatization opportunities. The route is often chosen by trekkers seeking a more remote and less crowded experience.

The Northern Circuit Route typically starts at the Lemosho Gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro. It shares some of the initial sections with the Lemosho Route but then veers north, circumnavigating the northern slopes of the mountain. The trail takes climbers through a variety of ecosystems, including lush rainforests, heath, moorland, and alpine desert.

One of the notable features of the Northern Circuit is its extensive trekking across the northern slopes, offering panoramic views of the Kenyan plains and the Mawenzi Peak, one of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic cones. The route provides trekkers with ample time for acclimatization, increasing the chances of a successful summit attempt.

The Northern Circuit Route is longer than many other routes, typically taking about 9 to 12 days for the round trip, allowing for a gradual and comfortable ascent. This extended duration enhances acclimatization, contributing to a higher success rate in reaching the summit, Uhuru Peak.

While the Northern Circuit is known for its stunning landscapes and less-crowded trails, climbers should still be well-prepared physically and mentally for the challenges of high-altitude trekking. As with any climb on Mount Kilimanjaro, having experienced guides and proper equipment is crucial for a safe and enjoyable ascent.
